Google Introduces Maps With WebGL – Provide Richer Visuals And Faster 3D Maps (Video)

Google Maps WebGL

Thanks Google! Google has just announced a brand new update for desktop version of Google Maps which enables WebGL support. Web Graphics Library (WebGL) is a new technology that brings hardware-accelerated 3D graphics to the browser without having to download additional plugins.

With WebGL your maps experience is much better with 3D buildings, smoother transitions between imagery and the ability to instantly “swoop” into Street View. You’ll also notice some nice animations at times and, depending on your computer, everything should feel faster.

Google Maps

To try the new Google Maps with WebGL,  you will need to visit Google Maps in Chrome 14+ or Firefox 8+ (the Dev Channel release of Firefox).  Go to the google maps (Link) , you should then see a “Want to try something new?” link in the left-hand sidebar. To try the feature out, just simply click the “Want to try something new?” .
