Last week, Samsung just announced noted that the two devices would not receive the update to Android 4.0, the most up to date version of Google’s mobile operating system which include the Galaxy S, the Galaxy S 4G, the Captivate, and the Vibrant, among others.  The company explained that the devices could not be updated due to hardware limitations, sufficient RAM or ROM  that would not be able to run the new Android platform alongside Samsung’s custom TouchWiz user interface. This is obviously a big disappointment for owners of both products but sometimes you role the dice and take your chances when purchasing a smartphone or tablet hoping that someday there will be a big software upgrade.

However, providing there is support behind development, there is every chance you can run it on your device. Anyway, you can always flash some unofficial ICS ROM onto the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab. The guys at ics-samsung have managed to make the Samsung Galaxy S run the Ice Cream Sandwich version and in a pretty good way as you can see in this video.
